Seniors' Resource Center Fundraiser

The Seniors’ Resource Center is holding its annual Gift of Independence Fundraising Breakfast on September 27th. This will mark the third year I have attended the event. The SRC is a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides services and resources in the Denver Metro area to help older adults age at home.
The organization is celebrating 40 years of service to older adults and caregivers.
In April I lost my mom due to complications from dementia. Dementia is a horrible condition that slowly robs family and friends of a loved one. It also robs people of their of their minds and their independence. Caring for an aging family member is a very demanding and expensive undertaking. SRC supports caregivers and older adults lessening the burden and the cost. It allows for an aging family member to spend more quality time with their family and retain the dignity of independent living.
My mom required a lot of care in her last few years. Her final year was spent in an assisted living facility that specialized in memory care and it was very costly. The day I had to take her to the faculty was one of the hardest days of my life. I remember collecting her wedding ring and watch for safe keeping. She wore them everyday. She left her home that day, not knowing that she would never see it again. I understand how difficult it is to place a loved one in a facility, no matter how necessary it is. I also understand how expensive care for a loved one can be.
I really appreciate all the wonderful services SRC offers. Anything that can delay that day for other families is a wonderful gift. If you are considering contributing to an organization, may I suggest SRC? I hope to see you at the breakfast.
